"Does going to church matter?"

I say...wrong question.

There is a website directed at what has been referred to as the "Goodbye Generation". I like it. There are some things discussed there that tweaked my interest, so I put in my two cents worth. Below is my response to the question & discussion starter, "Does going to church matter?" You can also visit the website and view my comment in their discuss section.

Hope you enjoy.

Does going to church matter? Hmm...Does going to the bar matter?

This is our problem--we have come to the point in Christendom that "church" is a building we go to in order to receive religious goods and services. That is not nor ever has been the Biblical definition.

The church is not a building there for us Christians to go to in order to feel better about our lives we live in the world. WE ARE THE CHURCH and we are here for the world.

Without true community, there is no church.

Church is the community of faithful believers who walk as Jesus did when they are not in the building.

You've asked the wrong question here. The question is not "does going to church matter". The question we should ask here is "DOES BEING THE CHURCH MATTER?"

When we talk about giving up on the church as we know it (and believe me...I'm there), we need to be willing to ask the right question.

If we are talking about turning our backs on certain methods and structures for the sake of reaching the lost, I am there. But if we're talking about turning our backs on a community of believers in Jesus Christ, I am not there.

BEING the church matters.

you are IGNORANT...sorry, but you are.

you are ignorant...

...sorry, but you are.

I just had to put that out there.

I mean, so many people today, including high-profile celebrities, politicians and musicians alike, talk about horrible injustice and human rights issues that exist in other parts of the world. Well, I'm all for that. In fact, I joined a group on facebook for a "rockumentary" on human trafficking and am currently trying to figure out how to support them.

HOWEVER! Let's get to the point of my accusation...that you are ignorant.

According to this website there are 4000 abortions per day in the US alone.

PER DAY!

That makes me sick.

Go to Abort73.com to learn more.

Do you really want to be labeled as IGNORANT like you already are?

Do you Believe in Rick Warren or Jesus Christ of Nazareth?

Do you Believe in Rick Warren or Jesus Christ of Nazareth?

Another article here from the "Missionary Road" website, which has lots of great stuff on it...however, this article links to a video of Mark Cahill spouting off against Rick Warren...its interesting. What you find below is my response to it.

Wow…I really don’t know what to say. While I don’t necessarily agree with certain aspects of Warren’s book like how many translations he used, just saying, “The Bible says,” and other vague inconsistencies like that, I’m not all fired up about Mark Cahill’s attack on him.

Mark 9:40 says, “for whoever is not against us is for us.” I didn’t know it was Biblical for Christians to attack people who are spreading the gospel.

I do not need to defend Rick Warren and believe me I am not doing that. However, when we begin to attack the words and actions of other believers who are spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, then we are treading on thin ice, and we ought to tread carefully and humbly lest the ice break way and we find ourselves in a worse position than the first.

Christ must be explicit in our God-talk | Missionary Road

Christ must be explicit in our God-talk | Missionary Road

The article I've linked above is on a website called "Missionary Road" and below is my response to this article (that I loved).

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” ~ Acts 4:12

We have a message. That message is Good News. The Good News is that in JESUS (not Budda nor Muhammed nor anyone else) we are saved. The Church exists to point to Jesus just like John the Immerser did when the Pharisees came asking him about who he was…he said, “I am not the Christ” (John 1:19). Nevertheless, we as the Church ought never to allow anyone room to say that we did not point to Jesus Christ. We ought not to confuse people in our “God talk”.

It is all about Jesus. “For to me, to live is Christ, to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)
